My name is Captain James Pollard and I’ve been fishing the waters of Tampa Bay since 1994. I was a very competitive tournament fisherman. What I enjoy most about fishing is teaching people how/what to look for while fishing. Seeing people’s reaction to landing a fish after a good fight is priceless to me! It’s about having fun and making memories on the water. Big Daddy Sportfishing specializes in inshore/nearshore St. Petersburg fishing charters. I teach anglers of all ages the value of adventure when chasing Snook, Redfish, Trout, Cobia, Kingfish, and Sharks. I’m a USCG Licensed Master Captain in the Pinellas, Tampa Bay area in St. Petersburg, Florida. There is no better location than the Tampa Bay area for your perfect fishing adventure! Your group of four can fish comfortably from our 24 ft. Bay Boat. With a 250 HP Yamaha engine we get to the fishing grounds in a quick and dry ride. All Safety Gear is Checked and Certified by the U.S. Coast Guard. Big Daddy Sportfishing is known for our flexibility and experience. We offer many different St. Petersburg fishing charter options for you and your family – from flats fishing to offshore in the Gulf of Mexico – we will find the bite and get those rods bending! The great thing about fishing in Tampa Bay – is the year round opportunities! We can get your group catching multiple fish every month of the year! Tampa Bay is well known for offering a wide variety of fish to target. With an 8-hour charter, you will have more time to get into some remote areas and it will open up a huge area to potentially fish (entire Tampa Bay.) Some of the species you can expect to see include Redfish, Kingfish, Snook, Trout, and more. The price of the trip includes rods, reels, and terminal tackle.

This trip was absolutely amazing! Let me start by saying that we were told by many folks to save our money and do something else, with it being a red tide, so we were a little worried in receiving this advice. I’m glad we stuck with our guts, as we caught so many fish, and our two sons (one turned 8 the day of the trip, the other is 3), had an absolute blast catching fish. Jim was great, very fun personality, and worked great with the boys. Our 8 year old was insistent that we take him fishing again when we get back home. I think it speaks volumes about the trip and Captain Jim when a child’s experience is so rich that he is left with the desire to do it again, soon! I would recommend Big Daddy’s and more importantly, Captain Jim, to anyone looking for a wonderful trip with family, friends, and loved ones, a trip that renders nothing less than awe at a beautiful creation, created by the word of God.

We’ve fished with Big Daddy before and certainly will again. Even in these strange and challenging red tide conditions, Captain Pollard still put us on the fish! And it’s always nice to have conversations with him too. He has quite a bit of knowledge about the area and history, wildlife, sea life. It’s a great bonus to go along with his fishing skills. Support your local fishermen folks! There’s still plenty of good fishing to be done, even in these challenging conditions.

Night Fishing Trip
This was our first time ever saltwater fishing, and Captain James introduced us perfectly! We started off a bit slow, but with Captain James’ experience and knowledge of the area our day quickly turned around. We managed to reel in many snook, redfish, snapper, and a catfish, while also spotting a hammerhead shark, dolphins, a stingray, and a jellyfish. I would definitely recommend this trip if this is your first time saltwater fishing!
