Looking for a night gigging trip in South Carolina?! Then you’ve come to right place! Captain Michael Stevenson of Bill Buster Charters specializes in one thing, and one thing only: Night Gigging for Black Drum and Flounder in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina.

Captain Michael has been providing customized, full-service gigging charters for over 30 years. He has perfected the technique of gigging and is happy to take customers of all experience levels for a trip. Gigging is the technique used by anglers who want to fish without using a rod and reel. Basically it’s a long pole with a spear at the end. Black Drum and Flounder gigging are very popular, and quite a lot of fun once you get used to the technique. Bill Buster Charters also guides bowfishing trips; all gear is provided and instruction given for both techniques.

Three anglers fish comfortably aboard Captain Michael’s 17ft flats boat. You’ll stand on the poling platform looking for schools of fish to target. We stay near the marshes and grass beds to locate our targets with the help of top GPS and Fishfinder electronics. We ask that anglers be at least 6 years old for these trips. Bill Buster keeps up with all safety gear, including an EPIRB, making your safety a top priority.

Bill Buster fishes near Saint Helena Island, Fripp Island, Pritchards Island, and Hilton Head Island. South Carolina is a unique topography with many canals and waterways with a great fishery. Flounder gigging is a favorite among those who have experienced this unique technique. Captain Michael encourages you to try your hand and book a trip!

Your Night Gigging Trip will begin after the sun goes down, around 7pm. Gigging is best done at night when the fish are active, and we’re fishing for about 4 hours before heading back to the dock. Lights on the boat allow us to see the fish in their habitat, easy to spot before capturing. We’ll gig or bow fish for Flounder, Bass, Tripletail, Black Drum, and more.

When you book with Bill Buster Charters, your fishing license is provided, as well as all gigging and bowfishing equipment. Captain Michael will also clean your catch at the end of the trip. Feel free to bring a small cooler with drinks or snacks; and you may want to bring a light jacket as the temperature gets cooler once the sun goes down.

We know you’re more than ready for an amazing adventure of Night Gigging! Book today with Bill Buster Charters and Captain Michael Stevenson and he’ll guide the way to your adventure.

Surf Fishing Day Trip
My wife and 2 teenaged daughters went on this trip. We set out at 10 PM and got back at 2. There were many, many stars. Way more than we see in Atlanta. Night on the water is a whole different world. Gigging is hunting fish with a pronged spear. It is a whole different thing than fishing with a rod - we watched the fish go by in the spotlight which you cannot do with regular fishing. We saw lots of fish that were not the ones we were looking for. Many stingrays and squids. Everyone was into it. The mate got us a couple of fish and I eventually got 2 - the ladies attacked with their gigs also but it is not easy to spear a fish! Mr Stevenson was wide awake, attentive and enthusiastic. We used up the battery with the fish lights but he had spare batteries and so that only slowed us down a minute. It was a great experience - surreal being out on the water in the dark with giant spears in our hands, but reassuring to be there with 2 regular guys who knew what they were doing.

Captain Michael was great! He kept in contact because we had to reschedule 2x due to weather. The 3rd time it was a gorgeous night. The water was like glass. We hear the dolphins following us. It was a wonderful experience! We would go again!
