Nothing is as exciting or rewarding as spending a day on the water landing big fish with our inshore fishing charters. At Captain John O’Hanlon Fishing Expeditions, we’re proud to share our love of Florida’s beautiful waters with our clients. Whether you’re an experienced angler or want to try out inshore fishing for the first time, we can put together an expedition that meets your needs. Captain John O’Hanlon Fishing Expeditions provides all bait and gear needed to fish. We have a cooler on board to store your food and drinks, but also recommend you keep a small cooler in your car to take your catch home. We also provide fishing licenses for all anglers. We recommend that you bring food, drink, sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat or cap, and long-sleeve shirt or light-jacket depending on the weather. On our fishing expeditions we offer flats fishing, inshore fishing, and offshore fishing in the Tampa Bay and Clearwater area. Flats fishing is an exciting, fast-paced and rewarding experience that is great for all ages and experience levels. Flats fishing is in shallow waters usually found in marshes, bays, and along the shore. The crystal clear water gives anglers the advantage as we can often see the fish swim by. The best flats for fishing are less than eight feet deep and have no overlying cover. This is a great trip to learn new techniques and are hot beds for many fish. Just like its name suggests, inshore fishing is conducted in waters no more than a few miles off the coastline. It’s possible to inshore fish from either a pier or a platform. If you’re considering heading out on a fishing expedition but haven’t been before, an inshore trip might be the perfect choice. Capt. John will show you the ropes and teach you what you need to know to land your first fish. At Captain John O’Hanlon Fishing Expeditions we love sharing our love of offshore fishing with fellow fishing enthusiasts. Whether this is your first time offshore, or you’re an experienced angler, we can create an expedition to meet your specific needs. We fish in waters deeper than those of an inshore expedition, and target the larger fish that inhabit the ocean’s floor. We generally troll or bottom fish in order to land the big catches. Spending a day on the water catching fish and having fun is one of the best ways to make lifelong memories. Captain John O’Hanlon Fishing Expeditions is proud to offer a variety of fishing trips to make your day in Tampa a success! Book today!

One of the world’s most powerful and enigmatic game fish, Sharks are plentiful around the coast of Florida. A wide variety of sharks are found on the state’s Atlantic and Gulf coasts, making it a premiere destination for anglers who want to land a trophy fish.
Shark populations and fishing are carefully managed in Florida. Thanks to this careful management, the shark population in the Tampa Bay area is diverse and includes more than a dozen different types of shark.
Among the most well-known and prevalent are Blacktip, Hammerhead, Bonnet head and Lemon Sharks. Blacktip and Bonnet head tend to be most popular with anglers. Tampa Bay is considered an important nursery area for sharks with many varieties choosing to deposit eggs in bays.
Anglers must be aware that not all varieties of shark can be caught or landed in Florida. The following species are considered prohibited and cannot be kept for trophy purposes: Atlantic Angel, Basking, Bigeye Sand Tiger, Bigeye Six gill, Bigeye Thresher, Big Nose, Caribbean Reef, Dusky, Galapagos, Great Hammerhead, Lemon Shark, Longfin Mako, Narrow tooth, Night, Sandbar, Sand Tiger, Scalloped, Seven Gill, silky, Six gill, Small tail, Smooth Hammerhead, Tiger, Whale and White Sharks.

We will leave the dock ready to fish. It is a short ride to the fish. We will provide instructions on how to catch these fish. We love to have children and adults with us. We have been very successful over the last 30 + years in making our clients have a great day on the water. We are on the water everyday, weather permitting, so we know were the fish are.
