To ensure a personalized fishing charter, Captain Fleming spends time getting to know you. He asks about your fishing experience and what you have in mind as far as fishing South Padre Island. He’ll ask about your abilities and expectations in order to design a custom fishing charter just for you and your group. Whether your group consists of professional anglers or children on their first fishing trip, you can count on Crystal Flats Guide Service for an unforgettable adventure.

We do shallow water private boat bay fishing for Speckled trout, red fish, and other species using spinning gear.

The boat is a 24ft skiff with Yamaha 200HP Sho VMAX outboard. With top-quality GPS and Fishfinder technology and large livewell, the vessel has everything we need for a fun, safe, and successful day of fishing. South Padre Island offers a variety of prime fishing spots, and Captain Fleming has experience fishing all of them! We fish the crystal clear “flats”, Lower Laguna Madre Bay, Ports Brownsville, Port Mansfield, or wherever the fish are biting!

We can go fly fishing, shallow water fishing, or deep sea fishing. Just let Captain Fleming know what you’re looking for and he is sure to customize the perfect trip. We’ll be fishing either 5 or 8 hours, depending on your package of choice. Each trip is a private charter with just your group aboard, so Captain Fleming is able to give his undivided attention to your needs.

Trips are available for four anglers/passengers. Included in the trip is all gear and tackle. Fish cleaning is available at the dock for an additional cost. Whatever trip you choose, Captain Fleming is determined to work for a successful charter for your 100% customer satisfaction.

His targeted species are Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, Mangrove Snapper, Black Drum, Tarpon, Snook, Ladyfish, Spanish Mackerel, Kingfish, Cobia, Croaker, Whiting, Sharks, and Mullet. Other specialties from the Brownsville Ship Channel like Lookdown Fish, Filefish, and other unique species are in the cards too. Techniques When do the fish bite best? That’s a question we hear a lot. In general, some conditions are better for fishing than others. Here’s an overview of the best times to fish: Sunrise / Sunset: The times just after the sun rises and just before the sun sets (and for about an hour after it sets) are among the best times to fish The One Hour Before / One Hour After Rule: The hour before and the hour after high and low tides Keep Your Eye on the Barometer: When the barometer is steady or rising, fishing conditions are generally good. If a storm is present, you can still catch fish because they still need to hunt despite the poor conditions. My most common techniques for fishing is spin fishing off light tackle using braided line in a 30 lb shock leader of monofilament. Other ways are swimbaits, bottom fishing, humping, popping cork in live shrimp, some times by request Croaker can be arranged, sight fishing with plastics, topwater lures, occasionally fly fishing is one of my best kept secrets

My first boat fishing trip and I absolutely loved it! Captain Cliff is very and I mean very knowledgeable. We caught plenty of fish. He is very friendly and patient. I went in with not much hope of catching much since i didn’t know how to fish. I came out with fish and can’t wait to go back! All my future trips will definitely be with him!
