Lake Arenal is the largest man-made lakes in La Fortuna, Costa Rica and it’s surrounded by beautiful, dormant volcanos. Rainbow Bass are native to Central America and can’t be found anywhere in North America. Guapote, meaning “handsome” in Spanish, have a healthy population in Lake Arenal. They are fiercely territorial and put up ferocious fights like their distant relative, the Peacock Bass. Rainbow bass are widely referred to as the best tasting freshwater fish in Costa Rica, and Captain Marc will fillet your catches at the end of the trip!
Captain Marc welcomes you aboard his beautiful 19’ Sea Pro boat. She can comfortably fish up to 4 anglers and she’s powered by a single 90hp Yamaha engine. Onboard you’ll find a fishfinder and a live bait well to keep your bait fresh. Rainbow Bass can’t resist a frantic, live baitfish thrashing in the depths of Lake Arenal! Captain Marc also has an ice box onboard to keep your catches fresh.
On Fishing Lake Arenal’s trips, you’ll be using an assortment of fishing techniques. To start off the morning, we’ll be casting and spinning with light tackle hooking up on Rainbow Bass. We’ll mix up the techniques in the afternoon, trolling and jigging will bring the Guapote to your bait when the water temperatures start to heat up.
With over 25 years’ experience fishing on Lake Arenal, Captain Marc Delvaux is your go-to-guy for this spot. He’s become intimately familiar with the feeding and migration patterns of the native Rainbow Bass. He’ll share his wealth of knowledge about Lake Arenal and the surrounding volcanos while you’re out on the water. For safety reasons, the minimum age limit for young anglers is 8 years old. Captain Marc is great with kids and novice anglers, he’ll make sure to bring them up to speed in no time!
