My name is Ray Culver and I am owner/operator of Flats Fanatic Charters and a licensed U.S.C.G Captain. As a Florida native and 4th generation Fishing Guide, I have over 20 years of fishing experience. I began fishing professionally on the FLW Redfish Tour at the age of 16 and now fish many large tournaments throughout the entire state of Florida. I was able to learn how to fish the Tampa Bay area in depth while attending University of South Florida six years ago. Since then, I have been sponsored by Salinity Fishing Gear and am a member of Team Shepard Resort.
Tampa Bay provides a unique environment that allows fishermen to catch a variety of fish species without going too far off shore. While cruising on the boat, be sure to enjoy the array of wildlife such as Manatees and Porpoises, as well as migrating birds like Mallards, the Native Heron and Egrets that call Tampa Bay their home. This will provide you with an experience of a lifetime! The type of fish we target will be determined by the time of year. We have a variety of options including fishing the flats, bridges, mangroves or fishing offshore wrecks or artificial reefs. Most of the trips are geared around catching a trophy Snook or Redfish while also targeting other species like Trout, Black Drum, Mackerel, Flounder and Cobia.
During Tarpon season, we are able to catch 75-150 pound tarpon. It is even possible to catch one weighing up to 200 pounds! Catching a Tarpon that size offers a much different experience due to their exhilarating fights lasting up to 2 hours. Because predators migrate with Tarpons, hooking a Hammerhead or Bull Shark is very common as well. If you like a challenge, Tarpon charters are the ones for you.
When weather permits, offshore fishing is a fun and unpredictable experience. Typically the charter runs approximately 15-25 miles offshore where we will catch a variety of fish such as Kingfish, Red Grouper, Gag Grouper, Lane Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Triggerfish, Mackerel, Scamp Grouper, Hogfish and so many more. You are guaranteed to catch any one of these when fishing on these underwater ledges and hardbottom spots.
