When you book with Freebird Charters, you’re booking with one of the most veteran charter services operating out of Orange Beach, Alabama. We excel in both inshore charters, and nearshore trips!

Captain John Sullens has been fishing the waters off of Gulf Shores, Alabama since 1995. He operates a team of qualified guides and treats every fishing trip as if it were his own. You can expect a full-service private trip with Freebird Charters, and we’ll provide one on one help to make sure you’re catching all the fish you can. If needed, we’ll even bait your hook! We’re a family friendly charter service, all ages are welcome at the parent’s discretion. Captain John is great with young kids, he’ll have them fishing like a pro in no time!

Freebird Charters maintains a well-kept 24’ center console, powered by a 250hp Yamaha engine. She receives regular maintenance and has enough room to fish up to 6 anglers. There’s a T-Top to provide shade for everyone, and you can also find a GPS and fish finder on board. Freebird Charters has a variety of safety equipment on board, including: Life Jackets, First-Aid Equipment, Flares, and a CPR-Trained Crew.

You can expect to catch a variety of Alabama’s coveted inshore/nearshore species, such as: Tarpon, Spotted Seatrout, Redfish, Cobia, Spanish Mackerel, Tripletail, Pompano, Triggerfish, and Permit. If the seas are calm enough (at Captain John’s discretion), you’ll be able to go further offshore in hunt of Red Snapper, King Mackerel, Grouper, and Mangrove Snapper.

Your trip cost includes rods for everyone on board, fishing licenses, fresh/live bait, and Captain John will clean your catches for a fresh dinner. April-May, and September-November are the best windows to target Redfish. April and May are also the top months to target Spotted Seatrout, but January-March and October-December also produce great numbers. No matter which time of year you’re looking to book with Freebird Charters, something is always biting!

Quick Fishing Trip (3 PM)
This was our first fishing trip on a boat. Our goal was to catch fish, and for our son to enjoy his time out on the water. Captain John and his deckhand did just that! We caught plenty of fish and somethings we were not even fishing for such as a stingray, crabs, and my son even got an oyster. The music and conversation were great. My mom is a non swimmer and this so out of her comfort zone. Captain John made her feel comfortable enough to be aboard. Thanks for that Captain John! This will be an experience that we will all remember, and look forward to our next trip with you when we come back. If you want to have fun and catch you some fish then definitely schedule you trip with Captain John you will do just that!!!! Thanks for an amazing time!!!

Quick Fishing Trip (9 AM)
This was an awesome trip. It was mine, my dad’s, and my brother-in-law’s first chartered fishing trip, and Captain John and Chastity couldn’t have been better. All the gear was great, and they kept our lines in the water. My dad hooked into a bull redfish, his biggest fish ever, and Captain John coached him through it. This was just a two-hour trip, but they let us fish for the maximum time possible rather than leaving our spot early to make sure we were back at the dock right when our time was up. Will definitely book with them the next time we’re back in Gulf Shores.

As two non-fishers this was great fun! Even though we were only on a short 2 hour trip Captain John helped us catch a giant Redfish. He even prepared it and recommended a restaurant that would cook it up for us and we followed his advice. It was great! They coached us, helped us with the hard parts, took photos and videos and sent them to us. They were always super nice and when we were about to lose a fish they would step in and help. Everything was great! Couldn’t ask for a better outing!
