King of the River- Kenai and Captain Dean Schlehofer will take you away from the crowds and into some of the most productive trophy fishing waters in the state – all amid the Kenai’s dazzling mountain scenery.

Dean Schlehofer is the owner and operator of King of the River- Kenai and King of the River- Kasilof. He has been fishing the Kenai River since 1986. Growing up in Connecticut, he often saw magazines writing about giant King Salmon in the Kenai. His dream was to one day go to Alaska and catch one of those Kings. In 1981 he and his family moved to Alaska. He later bought his first boat and later landed an 80 lbs. King Salmon. His dream of landing a trophy King had come true. He has been hooked ever since. Since starting his guide service, Captain Dean has guided thousands of clients. His greatest thrill is seeing the look on his clients face when they pull in their first Salmon.

You will be hopping aboard a 20’ Bay Boat with a 50HP Yamaha engine. This vessel is outfitted with a GPS, fish finder, and a radar. USCG approved safety gear including a CPR trained crew are also equipped. Captain Dean welcomes children of all ages on his trip so bring your family along to make some amazing memories on the waters of Alaska.

Amazing day on the Kenai with Dean and Grant. Dean put us on a jack within 30 mins and a huge rainbow (released) shortly after. King fishing was pretty slow with no boats around us having any luck but Dean kept moving us around to all of his favorite spots and late in the afternoon landed us an exciting King double header. The only other king we saw caught was at that same spot so clearly Dean knows the spots. We had two inexperienced anglers who were given a lot of guidance and attention. Would book them again without a doubt especially in a couple weeks when the 2nd run is in full swing.

Had awesome memorable trip to Alaska. My daughters and I had wonderful time. The experience was one of the best start to end. They texted me to keep me informed. Process was easy. Our guide Jason was great, friendly and knowledgeable. We caught a huge beautiful King Salmon, 35 inches. We couldn’t keep it due 1 inch over the regulation. Felt good to release the fish because the fish was fat female. I want to thank Jason for one of the best memorable trip I every had in Alaska not because we caught a fish, because he made our this trip relaxing and comfortable. For sure we will look for him next time we visit. Thank you.

We met them at the boat launch. They had texted us ahead of time to get our shoe size for waders, since we were fishing for sockeye salmon. Captain Dean took us up the Kenai River to one of his favorite fishing areas. We fished for several hours and caught 13 fish between the 4 of us. Dean and Grant were so helpful in coaching us on technique and helping once we had a fish on the line. Then Dean fileted all our fish. We kept one for a very fresh dinner and he took the rest to process and send to us. A fabulous experience!!! We all LOVED it!!!
