Hilo, Hawaii is home to some of Hawaii’s most fertile fishing grounds. Also, Hilo has far less fishing pressure than Kona, making it more productive. Our skilled crew, led by USCG certified Captains Jerry and Kimo are here to help you make the most of your Hilo fishing experience. The best part about fishing with Captain Jerry and Kimo is that you don’t need any prior fishing experience to have a successful trip! They’ll make sure everyone on board is comfortable and confident with the techniques needed to land every fish that strikes your bait. Malama Fishing Charters offers a 1/2 day 4-5hr trip, ¾ day 6-7 hour trip, and Full day 8-9 hr trip. You’ll mainly be trolling for some of Hawaii’s most coveted pelagic predators such as Ono (Wahoo), Mahi Mahi (Dolphin, Dorado), Striped Marlin, Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Black Marlin, and the prized Ahi (Tuna). If you’d rather spend your trip deep dropping for other prized species like Snappers and Groupers just let your Captain know and they’ll be happy to oblige. While bottom fishing, we’ll likely hook up on Grouper, Pink Snapper, Grey Snapper, Queen Snapper. You’ll be fishing on Malama Fishing Charter’s recently rebuilt custom 32’ Radovich. She receives regular maintenance and is equipped with all of the latest fishing gear needed for a productive trip. Her outriggers will make it easier to troll multiple rods at once, and there’s also downriggers, 3 GPS plotter units, 3kw and 1kw fish finders, 72 mile Radar and a flybridge onboard. When nature calls, you can find a toilet on board as well. Your trip price for the day includes a First Mate who will handle all of the rigging, baiting, and unhooking required. He’ll also be more than happy to answer any questions you may have about the techniques you’ll be using and offer insight into specifics about the local gamefish. The trip price also includes use of all rods, reels, and terminal tackle, fresh/live bait, chips, water/soft drinks. Hawaii Island has been a fishing Mecca since the 1940's. *Please call for availability due to harbor channel being too shallow to get through on certain days. We leave Hilo Harbor and are fishing within minutes. Deckhands are prepared for whatever takes the lure, sometimes its Ono within Hilo Bay or Mahi Mahi just outside the breakwall. We head to clear blue water and troll for Billfish, Mahi Mahi, Ono, Ahi and other pelagic species. If nothing bites, we may try in-shore bottom fishing just to get some meat on the deck! 72 Hour Cancellation, 4 Hr trip. 15-20% Gratuity Encouraged.

*Please call for availability as we are currently having difficulty with getting out of the harbor due to shallow water in channel. On your 6 hr trip, deep water is within minutes just out of the harbor and lines are in the water as we head to one of many productive fishing spots, trolling blue water for billfish, Ahi tuna, Mahi Mahi, Ono and other pelagic gamefish. Depending on the read of the water, we'll run North towards the Hamakua coastline or South towards the Puna coastline and hit the state FAD buoys to try our luck at some MahiMahi and Ahi Tuna. If time and currents permits, we may stop and do some bottom fishing for snapper and grouper. Charter runs 6-7 hours. 15-20% Gratuity Encouraged

Leave Hilo Harbor, 6 am and head North or South depending on conditions to the 1000 fathom fishing waters for Pelagic Marlin, Billfish, Mahi Mahi, Shortbill spearfish, Ahi and Ono. We will stop at the state FAD buoys for a chance at Aku and Ahi (Yellowfin Tuna). If currents allow, we may try to do bottom fishing for Pink and Queen Snapper and Hawaiian Hapu'pu'u Grouper. We leave Wailoa Harbor and head North along the beautiful and rugged coastline where you will see shear cliffs and waterfalls with the unique features of the East Hawaii Island coastline. The history of the area will be explained by your captain as we traverse the beautiful coastline. We go to Onomea Bay and Pepe'ekeo Point where Humpback whales can be seen in season (November through March). This tour is 4 hrs. long and will not disappoint. Children 8 and older are welcome. 4 PERSONS MINIMUM PER TRIP
