Welcome to Mighty Heron Charters! Capt. Mike’s charter is located In Somers Point, just a few blocks from the base of the Ocean City Ninth Street Bridge and minutes from Garden State Parkway Parkway exit 30. Capt. Mike has 45 years of experience fishing the area, from the back creeks to the canyons.

Fish aboard a 2013 Steiger Craft 28 "Miami" DV and powered by (quiet) twin Yamaha 250hp four-stroke UAC's. The boat is maintained to the highest standards and is cleaned daily. We have a current U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Vessel Safety Check sticker.

He can accommodate any age, experience and aptitude. This crew simply loves to fish. They take great pride in working with novices of all ages in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. They will coach and help you every step of the way. Your enjoyment and entertainment is his top priority!

For the experienced, results-driven angler, they’re ready. Capt. Mike provides high quality bait and tackle and always work hard to put you on the fish.

Length over all is 31' with a 10’ beam. This boat is the heaviest and deepest in its class which makes for a safer, more comfortable ride. The anchor has a motorized windlass. The head (toilet) is in the cabin and is stand-up, private and flushable. The cockpit is 8' x 8' (64 square feet). Plenty of room for 6 adults to fish comfortably.

The season starts in April with Tog (Blackfish) in the ocean and Striped Bass and White Perch "up the river".

During Summer, you can target Flounder in the back bays and Flounder, Seabass, Porgies and Triggerfish on the ocean structures. On the same ocean trip, you can also troll or snag and drop bait seeking the whole spectrum of various specie that can be found during the warmer months such as Bonito and including Cobia. We also offer specialty shark, tuna and mahi off-shore trips.

Autumn you can choose from Black Sea Bass and Tog (Blackfish) on the ocean structures out to about 30 miles or Striped Bass while trolling or jigging near-shore. You can also head "up the river" for calm waters and White Perch and small Stripers

Mighty Heron Charters does’t try to claim being the "best" and certainly no guarantees. It is, after all, fishing. What they do promise is a professional, organized, and personable captain and his very best efforts to put you on the fish. Welcome aboard!

Contact us first for a report to know what we are currently targeting. In early summer, we are focused on Flounder, Bluefish, and Seabass. Mid-Summer until early Fall, we can try to add some variety by incorporating snag and drop, troll, or sight-casting for the above-named pelagic species. Age 8+ advised but we trust your judgement. Morning trip has option to start as early as 6:00AM.

No guarantees but these are the biggest fish you will find within 3 miles of the beach.

We preferf to jig but will troll, pop, live-line....whatever it takes.

6 hours is recommended as we will run as far as LBI or Wildwood to chase these guys.

This trip is popular with the parents and grandparents of younger children. They found 2 hours to be “just right” for introducing the young ones to fishing or being on a boat. You'll primarily target Flounder, Weakfish, and Bluefish. Other species such as Seabass, Sea Robin and Sand Shark are also caught. The marina is minutes from productive fishing grounds, so you can maximize time with “lines in”. The crew has rods and tackle that are designed for smaller hands. "Big kids" with limited time will also enjoy this.

Action and a chance for a pile of tasty filets. You'll go out as far as 20 miles searching for jumbo Seabass. Seabass off South Jersey has been very good for several years and we see no reason why it won't be in 2022. We expect the spring season to start around May 15 and run until about June 20. The bag limit should be about 10 fish at 12.5 inches. After May 20, the Flounder season opens and we can target it on the same trip. Ling and Bluefish also can show up in the mix. Age 10+ advised.

You will head out to the 20-30 fathom curve between 30-50 miles out and troll, chunk, or jig for Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo. The trip lasts 10-12 hours. A shot at catching your own sashimi. Bring a container with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. In June, the crew can chase Bluefin and later in the month Mahi. As the summer progresses and the water warms up, the crew catches “football Tuna” along with Mahi and Wahoo. The crew loves pot-hopping.

Tuna, Mahi, and Wahoo – make a reel scream! We head out about 55-75 miles to the canyon zone. A shot at catching your own sashimi. Bring a container with soy sauce, ginger, and wasabi. Trolling, jigging, and/or chunking for Yellowfin, Bluefin, Mahi, Wahoo, and more. Poor sea conditions or a slim chance of finding fish (we use sophisticated satellite services to track water temps and other factors) can lead to a trip being canceled with a full refund. 5 persons max. Age 12+ and prior experience on the ocean is advised.

Calm Bay - Afternoon 3 Hours
This was the first time booking with Captain Mike and the first time taking my two boys (10&12) fishing. Captain Mike was extremely helpful and communicative; he proactively reached out about the weights of my kids to ensure we had the right size life vests, went out of his way to get equipment ready that would be easy for them to use, helped me find the best route to the dock, and proactively contacted me to let me know the weather looked uncertain and let me know we could take the morning time instead for better weather (which we did). Captain Mike helped my kids with the rods and reels and explained tons of fishing concepts to them to help build the foundation for a lifelong love of fishing. We had a great time and will definitely book with Captain Mike again this summer.

3 Hour Trip – Calm Bay (AM)
Took my son and my 2 grandsons (5&7) on Capt Mike’s 3hr morning bay fishing trip. From the moment we boarded both Capt Mike and his mate Felix were so helpful and fun to be with. 5 Hour – Near-ocean Deep Sea (AM)
I had booked a 5 hr near ocean deep sea trip for myself and my three teenage boys, but unfortunately, a storm blew up and we had to fish the bay instead. Captain Mike kept in touch with us to let us know our options. Bay fishing turned out to be a great first charter experience for us. My boys all caught some fish, and Captain Mike and first mate Colby were great! We would definitely book another trip with them! Hopefully, next time the weather will be kind to us!
