Captain Matt, a USCG licensed and insured guide, has been fishing the waters of Ponte Vedra Beach, St Augustine and Palm Coast for years. This area provides the shallow water angler a myriad of year-round fly-fishing opportunities, and Captain Matt knows all the best spots. He looks forward to sharing them with anglers of all skill levels.
For your St Augustine fly-fishing trip, you will be guided out of an 18ft Ankona Shadowcast. This vessel is equipped with comfortable seating and a large casting platform with a lean bar. The Shadowcast, with it’s extremely shallow draft and quiet hull, is the ideal vessel for fishing the super shallow backcountry creeks and flats of Northeast Florida.
Old City Guide Service will provide everything you need for a successful day fishing the flats and backcounty. Your fishing license, rods, reels, tackle, and lures are all included. Captain Matt also provides a cooler with ice and water for you to enjoy during your fishing trip. To ensure a great trip, Captain Matt recommends that you bring sunglasses (preferably polarized), non-slip boat shoes, hat sunscreen, comfortable clothing such as a UV Buff for your face and a long-sleeved fishing shirt. Feel free to bring a small cooler with your favorite snacks and drinks. And don’t forget your camera to record your memories of the day.
During your guided fishing trip, you will be sight fishing Redfish and targeting other seasonal fly and light tackle species such as Bluefish, Spotted Seatrout, Ladyfish, Black Drum, Sheepshead, Snook, Jacks, Tarpon and more. Who knows, you may even catch a Northeast Florida “Inshore Slam” of Redfish, Spotted Seatrout and Flounder all in one day.
