Captain Chadwick Crawford has held a USCG Captain’s license for 20 years and has guided all over the world. He’s eager to share a lifetime’s worth of fishing knowledge with his guests while showing respect to the environment in a sustainable manner. Capt. Chadwick is great with kids; he’ll teach them the techniques needed to land a variety of species native to Topsail Beach. Each trip with South End Anglers is tailored to meet each client’s needs and preferences. You let us know which species you’re interested in catching, and season dependent, we’ll make it happen!

South End Anglers meticulously maintains a 22ft Bay Boat, newly built in 2016. She’s powered by a 200hp engine and is equipped with a variety fishing equipment. Capt. Chadwick’s fishfinder will ensure you’re never far from the bite, and the wireless trolling motor on the bow will allow you to silently stalk the shallows without spooking the fish. Onboard you’ll also find a livewell, GPS, and radar. The vessel’s unique hull design allows her to safely cruise up to 20miles off the coast of Topsail Beach, but also to fish the shallow intracoastal waters.

Special 6 hour trip for Heather Johnson
We set out on a 6 hour trip, and from the moment we hit the water, it was awesome. Upon reaching the ocean, we were put on some hard pulling and highly spirited Bonito to get our arms warmed up. Heavy fog rolled in around 8 and didn’t let up until around 10. The visibility was horrible, but that didn’t stop Captain Chadwick from turning lemons into lemonade as we trolled for Spanish mackerel while searching for bait balls on the sonar. Once the fog went away, let me tell you, IT WAS ON! We found flocks of seagulls hitting bait that was being chased to the top by bonito and we caught and fought them until our arms were numb. It was exhilarating. For the last part, the captain took us to a ledge where we jigged and caught more Spanish mackerel, trout, sharks, and the catch of the day, a 44 inch red drum. We ended up taking home 27 Spanish mackerel, our limit of trout, and a bonito for bait. This was our first time fishing out in the ocean and it was awesome. Captain Chadwick was knowledgeable and we could tell that he really wanted us to have a good time. He had everything rigged and ready so we could spend more time with our hooks in the water and less time standing around. I think he was having just as good of a time as we were. He is really easy going and fun to talk with. He also knows how to tell how experienced you are at fishing and give you pointers when you need them whether you are a beginner, novice, or experienced angler. I will definitely be a repeat customer. Thank you Captain Chadwick for working to give us a day we wont forget.

Half Day Trip - PM
We had a fabulous afternoon inshore trip with Capt. Chadwick. He taught several tips and tricks on fishing techniques, as well as provided commentary on a variety of interesting local topics. We fished in several areas with different bait types, fishing styles, and intended catches. Capt. Chadwick was very patient and thorough in working with our kids (ages 8 & 17) to help them get the best opportunities to catch fish. He even brought up a cannonball jellyfish for our younger daughter to check out. It was a very neat creature! Overall, a great time was had by everyone. Would definitely book again when visiting this area.

Half Day Trip - PM
We had a great trip with captain Chadwick. Once we arrived the captain asked us if we wanted to catch fish to take home and eat, or if we wanted to catch and release. We said we’d like to do a little of both and that’s exactly what he did for us. We trolled and caught 9-10 spanish mackerel. Then we went out a couple of miles and did some bottom fishing. We caught some shark, flounder, sea bass, a blowfish and a couple of other species I didn’t know the names to. This was a great experience and I highly recommend captain Chadwick!
