Trip Details

May and first part of June we usually troll artificial baits (spoons, dodger / attractor & fly, body baits and even cut bait) for salmon & trout usually near shore (1/2 to 3 miles offshore). We catch all species that are in the Great Lakes King & Coho Salmon, Steelhead or Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Lake Trout. It is uncommon to catch other species or hybrids but it does happen. From time to time the other fish that we can catch are pink salmon, a hybrid cross of Pink / King which is call a Pinook and Atlantic salmon are becoming more common and some states are actively stocking higher numbers of Atlantics. We often have higher counts of Coho in May and June but in 2024 it was fantastic all year long! Sometime in June the fish usually move offshore to deeper waters to find their preferred temperature range of living. That can be 6 to 10 + miles offshore. Sometimes we run North or South which also adds distance from port. If you are from out of town, we have an old saying... "go fishing when you can and are here", we promise to work hard to catch fish for you. You can have a wonderful day any day of the week in any month! We have a relatively fast boat and don't waste our time running slow (to save gas). We want to catch fish just like you and our boat runs smoothly at a higher rpm than most. So we often get to the grounds with more fishing time and if needed stay longer. July fishing is usually fantastic with all species being caught. Later July and most of August is a fun month, huge King Salmon usually show up in limited numbers, when they are around and bite, it is not uncommon to catch a 20 plus pound King. September tends to start to slow but early Sept. can still be good with catches of all species. We tend to slow down by mid September and start thinking about hunting ducks and getting our duck hunting charter boat going and putting or fishing charter boat into dry dock.
