Mahi Mahi is a fast-growing species with a lifespan of no more than 5 years. When being chased, it can turn on its neon colors and run at speeds of up to 5 knots. This fish lurks beneath weed lines as well as any floating debris that can hold bait. Light-tackle anglers often catch dozens of smaller Mahi. July and August are the best months for this species in the area. You'll be nearshore fishing in Florida state waters, within 9 miles offshore.
