On June 11th, Alabama will be hosting a 'Free Fishing Day' event. Anglers will be able to fish in most public waters without a fishing license. Whether you're an experienced angler or someone who's just getting started, this is the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy some time on the water!

The date is set during National Fishing and Boating Week, which takes place from June 4th through the 12th. The opportunity to fish without purchasing a license is not only extended to Alabama residents, but visitors to the state as well. The day allows individuals and families who may not typically go fishing to get out and drop a line, expanding participation in recreational fishing while also educating on conservation and sustainable angling.

Although the 'Free Fishing Day' will have you covered in most instances, public fishing lakes may still require a license. You will also want to acquire the property owner's permission before fishing in a private pond. Finally, it is worth noting that certain piers may still charge their typical admission fees.

You may also notice that the 'Free Fishing Day' takes place during the Gulf Red Snapper season, a huge draw for anglers to the Gulf Coast. Anglers targeting Red Snapper will still be required to have the $10 Gulf Reef Fish endorsement, as well as complete the free saltwater angler registration process.

Whether you fish every day or have been thinking of trying a new hobby, mark your calendar for 'Free Fishing Day' on June 11th!
