Okaloosa Island Pier

There's nothing quite like a day spent fishing on the beautiful Emerald Coast. And when it comes to finding the perfect spot to cast your line, Destin, Florida is definitely the place to be. Here are just a few of the top public fishing spots in Destin that are sure to please anglers of all ages and skill levels.

East Pass Jetty

Located at the east end of Destin's harbor, the East Pass Jetty is a popular spot for both locals and visitors alike. This is a great place to fish for Spanish mackerel, redfish, pompano, flounder, and more. And since it's located right in the harbor, there's no need for a boat. Just bring your tackle and bait and you're good to go.

Although morning or evening are best, you can catch something here all hours of the day. A word of caution, however. There is no sidewalk or walkway to navigate the jetties, and anglers must step from rock to rock to get to their fishing spot. Anglers should be sure-footed and confident in their balance. Be especially careful of wet algae on the rocks, as it is like stepping on wet ice. It is not a fishing spot suggested for groups with very young children.

John Beasley Park

Although technically located in Fort Walton Beach, John Beasley Park is close enough to get some great fishing and relaxation in! This is a park on Okaloosa Island featuring a pristine white sand beach, beautiful turquoise waters, and ample opportunity for fun in the sun.

There is no pier here, so you will be fishing in the surf. There are a variety of species running through these waters, so you never know what you're going to catch, although pompano, redfish, and mackerel are common targets. The beach is popular with families, and has a reputation for being a bit quieter than the nearby "party beaches."

Okaloosa Island Pier

The Okaloosa Island Pier (now known simply as "The Island Pier") is one of the most popular fishing spots in Destin. And it's easy to see why. At 1,262 feet long, this pier offers stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico, beautiful sunsets, and access to a variety of fish. From pompano and mackerel to flounder and redfish, there's something for everyone at the Okaloosa Island Pier.

An adult fishing day pass is $8, while a child pass (6-12 years old) is $5. Children 5 or younger can fish the pier for free. These fishing passes cover your fishing license for the day as well, which is appealing to vacationers. Those wishing to simply walk the pier or watch the action can get a $2 pass. Fishing rod rentals are available, as is all the tackle and bait you need for a successful day of fishing! Drinks and snacks are also sold at the pier, although we'd suggest bringing your own cooler to avoid having to leave your fishing spot.

These are just a few of the many great fishing spots in Destin, Florida. So whether you're a seasoned angler or just getting started, be sure to check out these spots the next time you're in town. You're sure to have a great time and maybe even catch a fish or two!
